SKILLED LABOURERS - ROAD CREW & Prince Edward County

Aerecura is hiring to fill positions of skilled labourer on our road crew, and positions for a crew based in Prince Edward County. These are contract position with a potential start date of May 8th 2019. This is a great opportunity for learning sustainable building techniques and the rammed earth building process.   

Our mission is to provide our clients with the homes best suited for them, and the environment. Aerecura builds rammed earth homes, offers deep energy retro-fits, and sustainable renovations. We work primarily in the GTA, Prince Edward County, and Grey Bruce County.

Aerecura crew members are expected to work well on a team and be able to contribute to a safe and positive work environment. Our team works closely together through the season; the ability to work alongside individuals with various personalities and backgrounds is paramount.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform physical work. This can include tasks such as shoveling, lifting up to 50 pounds, operating pneumatic tampers daily (approx. 30 pounds), and loading and unloading materials.\

  • Construction work, which may include site clean up, basic carpentry, window installation, roofing, insulation, etc. 

  • Readiness to show up at work on time and with proficiency. 

  • Reporting to the project manager on tasks and job site requirements.

  • Aerecura works closely with our clients. Respectful attitude toward our clients, contractors, and staff is expected at all times.

Skills/Requirements: 

  • Trades College degree and/or 1-2 years work experience in the trades/construction/renovations.

  • Experience and/or knowledge of environmentally and energy efficient building techniques (we teach ramming earth on site and the ability to do this is not a requirement of hire).

  • Ability to shovel for sustained periods of time. 

  • Works well in a team, and on independent tasks.

  • A love of the outdoors.

  • The ability perform a physically laborious job.

  • Comfortable working at heights.

  • The desire to learn new skills.

  • Experience shoveling!

  • A valid G driver's licence.

  • Must posses a reliable vehicle.

  • A love for sustainable building!

Commuting: Because our builds are often outside of major cities, travel is frequently involved. Where applicable, it is your responsibility to arrive on time and prepared for work. Aerecura does encourage car pooling where possible, but we cannot rely on our crews’ home bases being close to each other to make car pooling a reliable option. Preference will be given to those who apply with access to vehicles.

Accommodations: When working on rural sites, Aerecura provides accommodation of platform canvas tents. You must provide your own bedding. Our crew takes turns sharing in the responsibilities of camp life. Food is covered by Aerecura on work days only. For urban builds or builds within populated areas, other sources of accommodation will be provided, and crew are responsible for own meals. These accommodations may be shared with other crew members.

Other Requirements: Upon hiring, you will be expected to show up on site with your own personal safety gear including but not limited to: CSA approved work boots, CSA approved hard hat, a tool belt, and suitable clothes that are that are weather or task appropriate (gloves, clothing, etc.).It is expected that you will be available by phone (text is fine) on evenings and weekends for last minute changes of schedule and location of the following day’s/week’s work as determined by the Project Manager.

Working Conditions:. Days vary in length with frequently long days (9+hrs), extended weeks (7-10 days on followed by 3 days off) Aerecura does require crew members to work through holiday weekends when timelines require us to.  Work starts with sunrise. Aerecura does work in inclement weather which may include: rain, wind, snow and through extreme heat and extreme cold. If you are not a fan of being outdoors, this isn’t the job for you! Our work is subject to change due to extreme weather which may make working conditions unsafe; we take the safety of our employees very seriously. 

Training: Aerecura provides fall protection, WHMIS and first aid. Additional training is an asset, please list any relevant training clearly within your resume.
