Tobacco Road House

Castleton, Ontario • Completed 2015 • Rammed Earth Construction • Passive Design

The Tobacco Road House explores the intersection of natural materials, high-performance design, and everyday living.

Designed to capture sunlight, views, and the benefits of thermal mass, the home pairs rammed earth walls with passive design strategies to create a comfortable and energy-efficient living environment. Wood, stone, and earth are used throughout the project to create spaces that feel warm, enduring, and connected to their rural setting.

More than a decade after its completion, the home continues to demonstrate the lasting value of building with durable materials and designing with performance in mind from the very beginning.
